Industrial Automation : Scope is Immense

The Scope is Immense in Industrial Automation in India

Economists observe that the market is around 200 crore. However, the potential is much more around Rs. 20,000 crore. The reasons for this are very clear. The systems are a must for every industry – particularly for increased safety and productivity. The industrial automation systems aid in achieving higher level of productivity. Of course, the only way to compete in the global market is through quality and price. Experts observe that the government should give incentives so that industries install automation systems. Norms have to be created for this industry as well.

Another system that most people are not aware of is the entrance automation industry. Experts like Samir Gandhi observe that most tend to think about this as a luxury. However, that is wrong. People should consider it as a primary requirement and not a luxury in any way. He also feels that five years from now users would become aware of the benefits of the industry and the products will sell on their own rather than marketing skills.

The robotics industry makes a soar up.

With the boom in the industrial automation sector, the robotics industry is also set to witness prolific growth. As of now, the country's top scientists are at work on robot and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies for use in everything from border patrols to the fielding of “robot armies” to replace human soldiers in future wars. The industry is also gearing up for sharp growth in the non-governmental private sector as well. At India's biggest auto manufacturer, Tata Motors, the employee strength has come down by 20 percent, while the company's turnover has increased by 2.5 times. The Pune plant alone has invested in 100 robots, and the automaker is planning to add more. Sale of industrial robots is gathering pace in India as automobile companies expand their operations in the country. ABB has sold about 300 robots in India in the last seven years. But the Zurich-based vendor expects double-digit growth in India from now on because of the rapid expansion of automobile companies.

Analysts observe that India enjoys a distinct cost advantage. The engineering costs are lower here and the country can produce more robots. Domestic supplier Precision Automation and Robotics (PARI) is already selling its robots to large organizations in the US and Europe. What is interesting, Indian scientists are also manufacturing more robots in order to reduce the country's dependence on others. This is being done with the active cooperation of the Department of Science and Technology (DST).
